DC Bike List for 11/15/18!

(this is a copy/paste, view the original newsletter in all it’s well-formatted glory here)

Some great events happening this week. TONIGHT is the pedestrian memorial walk, and on Saturday is Cranksgiving, an alleycat (i.e., bike messenger) race that anyone can join and that aims to collect food donations for the holidays. Also, in Thanksgiving-themed activities, check out the Pie Ride on Saturday and the Turkey Roll on Sunday! A few more odds and ends:

  • A plan is coming together to link Dupont Circle to the National Mall with a protected north-south cycletrack. The question is: will it go on 20th, 21st, or 22nd St. NW?? On Dec. 5, DDOT is holding a public meeting to discuss the possibilities and seek feedback from the public. Please see if you can make it!
  • Following a lengthy pilot period, DC’s DOT hasannounced regulations for the dockless bike and scooter companies for 2019. With a cap at 600 vehicles that must be distributed throughout the city (plus a speed limit of 10mph for e-scooters), the e-scooter companies are not happy. Lime, Bird, and Spin have all publicly criticized the new rules.
  • As DC tightens regulations on the new dockless vehicles, Alexandria’s City Council gave the go-aheadfor its own dockless bicycle and e-scooter pilot program.
  • Just a general FYI as we near the end of the year, a lot of our area local bike shops are having sales to clear out 2017/2018 model bicycles and make room for the 2019 ones. If you’re thinking about getting a new bike, November/December is a great time to get a deal!

OK, that’s all I’ve got. If you like this newsletter, feel free to forward it along to friends and tell them to sign up or follow on Twitter and on Facebook. Also, if you have a ride you want added to the list, you can submit it via this form. Stay safe, ride fast.
